Ohana Veterinary Dentistry provides specialty dentistry and oral surgery services to pets on Oahu and neighbor islands. We have partnered with Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital, a large, modern, 24-hour hospital with a dedicated dental suite. We work together with you, the family veterinarian, from the time of initial referral until the time of the patient's last visit with us in order to ensure continuity of care.
Once the client has scheduled the initial consultation with us, we will call your office to request a copy of the patient's medical records. During the initial consultation with your client and their pet, we will review the medical records, speak with the client about their pet's overall and oral health, perform a physical examination and a detailed oral examination. If a procedure is recommended, we will review the details of the treatment plan with the client, discuss general anesthesia, and provide them with an estimate of costs. The procedure is scheduled for a future date.
The pre-anesthetic assessment is dependent upon the patient, but includes at minimum a complete blood count (CBC) and biochemistry profile within several weeks of the procedure. This may be completed at your office before or after the initial consultation with us, or at our office during the consultation. If additional testing is recommended (such as additional blood tests, thoracic or abdominal radiographs, cardiac consultation, or abdominal ultrasound), we will let the client know that additional tests may be recommended before scheduling and that we will discuss the pre-anesthetic work-up with you. Once we have formulated a pre-anesthetic plan together, the testing may be completed with your office with results forwarded to us.
To ensure timely and accurate communication, a copy of the oral healthcare consultation including the treatment plan is emailed (preferred) or faxed. The complete record and any follow-up recommendations are also sent once the procedure has been completed.
We generally schedule consultation appointments on Mondays. Procedures are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will always accommodate urgent cases.
We strive to be a valuable extension of your practice. Please contact us if you have any questions about a case.
